Hilary Davidson methodically leads readers on a murder mystery journey, then dials the suspense up to the thrilling conclusion with Every Lie I Told. The author’s storytelling allows for readers to understand the characters while also wondering how all of the pieces fit together. We can relate to the protagonist’s love for her sister. But this also begs the question – would you lie to save your murdering loved one from going to jail for the rest of their life?
The main character, Jackie, walks us through the situation while providing relevant backstory. We understand who the people are and where they fit in (or out of) her life. But then more and more people become potentially involved. Jackie isn’t sure who colluded with whom, or who is telling the truth. The irony is, she is hiding crucial information about her role as well.
While slow-paced for much of the book, patient readers are rewarded towards the end. Every Lie I Told is entertaining with a plot that makes you want to solve the mystery with Jackie. I know I never see twists coming – but I did not expect the twists that the author provides. Lovers of domestic suspense will greatly enjoy this one.

How far would you go to protect a killer?
Jackie Swift does whatever it takes to succeed. At work, she spins lies to protect questionable clients at a shady public-relations firm. At home, she helps her younger sister, Madi, evade consequences for dangerous choices she’s made about friends and drugs. But Jackie’s professional and personal worlds collide one night when she gets a call from Madi telling her she overdosed. And she soon discovers there are people who’ve been waiting in the shadows for a chance to take her down.
