Meghan is a servant working at Ogden Castle in medieval England. She had been kidnapped from her lord’s castle, where she worked alongside her father. After escaping her captor she found refuge through work. But when the opportunity to return arrives in the form of a traveling caravan of knights, including the very handsome Lord Aurick, she secures passage. Unfortunately, Aurick’s men betray him. And Meghan manages to not only stay alive but also save Aurick’s life as well. After working together to make it back to their respective homes, they both learn truths about themselves while getting to know one another. My Lady by Diane David is a historical/medieval romance that explores the growing yet “forbidden” love between different social classes, with twists that neither of them saw coming.

Book

Meghan knows that the couple who raised her were not her true parents. While she has certainly wrestled with being abandoned as an infant, she appreciates the love she received from her adoptive parents. And our hero Aurick lives up to the trope – noble, reliable, and honorable. Even though sparks flew between Meghan and Aurick from the start, acting on the temptation is forbidden. Understandably, sexual and emotional tension continues to grow until they can no longer hold themselves back. Meanwhile, when it comes to choosing between love and duty, secrets from the past prove to be more relevant and surprising than ever.

Review

Diane David delivers more than just a slow-burn, forbidden love story with My Lady. A woman’s quest for vengeance kicks off our story, and other betrayals prove crucial to our characters’ journey. Plus the plot twists added just the right amount of suspense and surprises that readers might not otherwise see coming. I only wish that we got some more on-page relationship development in the beginning. While the third act seemed extensive, the plot points made it more heartfelt and powerful.

Readers should be mindful of content warnings such as sex acts on page, childhood abandonment, attempted murder, violence, intended sexual assault, and pregnancy loss. Even so, romance lovers who enjoy a well-paced, occasionally steamy and heartwarming love story will definitely enjoy My Lady.
