By day, Dana Roberts is an author on a press tour for her latest release. But on the side she investigates the supernatural – or supernormal, as she likes to put it. After surviving a traumatic incident in her childhood, she has dedicated her life to ridding the world of ghouls, demons, and other supernormal beings. After a night out, Jana Davis crosses paths with Dana fighting one of these demons. Dana decides to hire Jana for her next assignment, which involves strange occurrences at her ex-lover’s home in Rome, Italy. But while investigating the case, the pair realize that there’s more to the story than what their client is sharing. The Case of the Bleeding Wall #1 by Joe R. Lansdale and Kasey Lansdale (illustrated by Daniele Serra) is a paranormal graphic novel in which Dana and Jana join forces to eradicate threats to their world – or else become part of another realm in the process.
Readers are thrown into the action from the very start in The Case of the Bleeding Wall #1. We meet Dana when Jana does, allowing us to gather information with the character. The story flows adequately enough, although there are some holes in the story. While Dana’s motivation was made clear, Jana just sort of goes along for the ride. If the story doesn’t hook you, however, the illustrations will set the tone for an eerie, spooky, and gross setting for our demon-hunter duo. I understand that this is just the first issue in the story, so I assume readers who continue the series will see more to the story. For a first issue, it’s perfect for readers who enjoy horror and paranormal stories.
The Case of the Bleeding Wall #1 is available May 28.
