Review
RaeAnne Thayne knocks it out of the park yet again with her latest book, The Rainy Day Bookshop. Reading one of her stories is like a warm visit from an old friend. She’s remained one of my favorite women’s fiction writers.
The slow burn and sensual tension comes in droves. When it comes to romance, I used to think, “Oh my God, just kiss already!” But Thayne is one of the authors who makes me appreciate it during my reading experience. Rosie and her love interest, Andrew, have the most hilarious meet-cute ever. And the tension builds from there.
Emma, on the other hand, reunites with her former classmate, Bryce. Bryce knows the kind of person she was before tragedy struck and her life changed forever. And he never stopped crushing on her. Even though Emma’s feelings for him grow as well, she carries the guilt from a secret and the choices that she made over the past ten years. But that doesn’t stop Bryce and all his Green Flags from supporting her, even as just a friend.
As will many of Thayne’s stories, these characters have depth and room to grow. The author doesn’t shy away from serious, heartbreaking issues – even so, she holds your hand while she takes you along for the ride. The Rainy Day Bookshop is a lovely and cozy beach read (or perfect for a rainy day, ha). Thayne proves why she’s seen writing success for decades.
RaeAnne Thayne returns to the Cantina Book Club Podcast to chat about slow burn romance and plans for the future. Keep an ear out for the episode and pre-order The Rainy Day Bookshop, available June 2.
Book
Sandwiched between caring for her mother and rebuilding the relationship with her estranged daughter, Emma, Rosie Lucas’s life is full. In the best way. With Emma and her 3-year old daughter, Olive, back home, Rosie has a partner for The Rainy Day Bookshop, the family business, and a chance to fix the past. What she doesn’t have time for is a romantic relationship. And even if she did, Andrew Morgan is the last person she’d choose. Not only is he an arrogant and reclusive writer, but he’s a single dad with two young kids. She’s already been there, done that. Still as an irresistible flirtation builds between them, he becomes her unexpected confidante on the distance Rosie can’t seem to overcome with Emma, a secret she can’t quite unravel…
Emma isn’t proud of her past. But she’s pulled herself up by the bootstraps, caring for her own daughter, and protecting her mom at all costs. Just as she always has. She never told Rosie what she saw all those years ago and she never will. But some secrets refuse to stay buried, and sometimes the truth is more shocking than fiction. Rosie and Emma will have to navigate an unimaginable path forward. Together.
